Resolving to be Boundless: From Dream to Reality

How many of us make New Year’s resolutions? Out with the old and in with the new and all that jazz? It almost feels like any resistance is futile as you inevitably get swept along with the nostalgic obligation of annual goal-setting.

Did you know that in Portugal there is a very specific ritual attached to establishing your hopes and dreams for the year ahead and it’s pretty wild?! This is how it goes:

  1. Put on your new Christmas undies from Auntie Betty. The colour of them is significant. Blue = Good Luck, for example.
  2. Grab 12 raisins and stand on a chair.
  3. As the clock strikes down to midnight you eat the raisins one at a time whilst also making a wish or setting a goal for each one.

I am reliably informed that this is a real thing and my Portuguese colleague is not winding me up, but if I’m the only one standing on a chair on NYE in my new blue undies eating raisins, there will be trouble!

Whether New Year’s Resolutions fill you with excitement or quiet resentment, one question remains: why wait for this arbitrary nudge in the right cosmic direction? We are masters of our destiny.

Taking the decision to make a BIG life change and a leap into the unknown takes courage. It’s rarely a spur of the moment intentional deviation from your expected path. This is especially true if you have a family and children to consider.

So many of our Boundless families - my own included - have wrestled with the perceived enormity of “up-rooting” - temporarily or more long-term - and exploring the endless possibilities and opportunities that travel presents. It’s entirely normal to feel this inner conflict often waged between head and heart.

In a forthcoming edition of ‘Boundless Conversations’ with one Boundless mom, Olympian Jaime Komer, she discussed her approach to tackling change head on:

“First, it’s about the stories we tell ourselves…if you are ready to be boundless inside of yourself..if you are ready to live that inside of yourself you are already starting to manifest that as your reality. Our mindset creates our reality.”

Jaime goes on to acknowledge that mindset is the first hurdle to overcome. Next comes the practicalities. That’s where Boundless Life steps in with a ladder - or removes the hurdles all together!

  1. Providing fully-equipped, family friendly homes and co-working spaces
  2. Giving your children the opportunity to benefit from forward-thinking, experiential learning at one of our Education Centres
