Tuscany is a GREAT destination for families with its family-first nature and a diverse landscape spanning from the coast to the Apennine mountains. Boundless Life’s Tuscan base, Pistoia, is extremely well connected by both rail and road to explore all that the region has to offer. Here’s our Top 5 tips for kid-friendly days out that the whole family can enjoy!
Pinocchio Park
The classic tale of the wooden puppet brought to life (and made famous by both Disney and, more recently, Director Guillermo del Toro) comes to life at this magical park just outside of Lucca.
A trail through the park will lead you past a tableaux of different episodes from Carlo Collodi’s 1883 fairytale ‘The Adventures of Pinocchio’. The park also features gardens, a butterfly house and a museum.
The Leonardo Da Vinci Museum
There is a good chance the Leonardo Da Vinci museum in Florence will be one of the field trips our Boundless Education Explorers will take during their stay, but this is one place that deserves more than one visit!
Children love the interactivity of the museum with over 40 machines built to scale - including the Renaissance master’s flying machines.
Faithful reproductions of his famous paintings are also available to admire. Marvel at The Last Supper or see for yourself whether the Mona Lisa’ eyes really do follow you around the room.
Acqua Village
If you have some water babies on your hands then head for Follonica and Cecina on the Maremma and Etruscan coast. Here you will find two Hawaiian-themed waterparks! Packed with various pools and slides for all ages you are bound to have a blast. There’s also the opportunity to bounce on some bouncy castles, play football and volleyball or try your hand at circus school!
Parco Aventura Saltalbero
If you and your tribe have a head for heights and a spirit for adventure maybe head to Parco Aventura Saltalbero. Located close to the near Rapolano Terme in the Ombrone Valley you can balance and wobble your way through the treetops on the high ropes course secured safely with a harness. A variety of routes with different difficulty levels are available.
Museo d’Arte per Bambini
Art is life here in Tuscany and the locals want to do all they can to encourage a passion for it from a young age. The Museo d’Arte per Bambini - found within the prestigious Santa Maria Della Scale Centre - is for children aged 3-11 and features an extensive collection across multiple traditional and modern mediums to inspire young minds.
