A New Festive Adventure: Carmen's Family Getaway in Bali

Carmen and her son recently enjoyed a memorable stay at our inaugural festive Getaway in Bali. This innovative 3-week programme offers families the opportunity to celebrate the holiday season in a new culture while immersing themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of our Boundless Life locations.

I had the chance to chat with Carmen about her experience in Bali and discover why she's chosen another Boundless Life destination for her family's next festive adventure.

Hey, Carmen! Thanks so much for taking the time to talk to us about your family’s December 3-Week Getaway experience! We’re delighted that you enjoyed Bali so much that you’re ready for a new festive adventure this year.

What was it like spending the festive period in Bali?

The people in Bali were beautiful. Their welcoming and calming demeanour was one of the most treasured experiences of our time there. The scenery was the perfect backdrop to end the year.

For many families, time away from home at this time of year represents an exciting break from the norm. How did you and your son adjust?

Jetlag was more real than I expected. Micah and I live on Eastern Standard Time so our 7aET wakeup was bedtime in Sanur. It took us about a week to adjust. To help us adjust a few days in, I organised an activity - playground, pool, etc. - after school to extend our wake times. Before this, we would come home after school and go to sleep about an hour later, which was about 4pm Bali time.

Do you have a favourite memory from your time in Bali?

Boundless had a trip to a rice field and the Hyatt resort hosted us for Christmas day, which was pool, beach, eat on repeat! The one memory that stands out to me was our day trip to Ubud. Micah was 21 months so seeing him at the monkey forest was a pure childhood moment that I will always cherish. I also enjoyed visiting a day resort overlooking a waterfall from the pool and restaurant as well as saying a blessing in the waterfall with Micah. Being in nature all day was grounding.

What’s one unexpected benefit your family came away with?

The reminder that we can do anything that we think of. While I travel monthly with Micah back and forth from our homes in Washington, D.C. and South Carolina to other locations throughout the year, a 36-hour flight was more than we had ever done. And to know that other families who we met through Boundless had the same go-getter approach made me feel seen.

Can you tell us which Boundless Life location you are heading to this December and why you selected it?

After researching all Boundless Life locations, I selected Andalusia, Spain for our December 2024 trip. I visited Barcelona years ago and loved it so I was curious about the country’s Southern coast. And for winter, Andalusia has nice weather. I also appreciate the time difference being closer to EST and that Morocco is a ferry ride away!

Huge thanks again to Carmen. If you’d like to learn more about our 3-Week December 2024 Getaway options check out our Blog here
