500 Families. 1,000 Children. 2 Years: One Wild, Boundless Ride

Rewind two years. The Founders of Boundless Life and a brand new Crew of around ten people are in Sintra, Portugal nervously awaiting the arrival of the first-ever group of Boundless Life families. Everything had led up to this moment - including the shedding of blood, sweat and tears (mostly as a result of assembling countless items of furniture day and night).

It seems like a lifetime ago, but also like yesterday. Today, we look to the future, but it’s good to reflect on how far we’ve come together.

Evolving Education

Boundless Education always has been - and always will be - at the very heart of Boundless Life. It is a huge part of our ‘why?’ and was born out of our own desires for our children. For them to accumulate the skills that will best prepare them for a somewhat unknown future. To be able to not only cope with the blistering pace of change but to truly thrive. To develop not only their core academic skills but also their socio-emotional range through the unique lens of culturally immersive travel.

They say “Every day’s a school day”, right? Like our 1,000 intrepid Explorers, Boundless Education has evolved and grown over the last two years. With the invaluable input and support of both our Boundless parents and the Explorers themselves, we have fine-tuned our curriculum, approach, and identity.

Boundless From the Beginning: Joana, Education Centre Coordinator, Sintra:

“For me, it has been wonderful to see the collaborative effort within our education community - educators, parents, Explorers and even the local community working together towards some great - and memorable - learning outcomes.

The introduction of the Student-Led Conferences and our Boundless Junior Forums in particular were great steps forward. Empowering our Explorers to discover their potential as future leaders has been really moving.”

You can learn more about how Boundless Education is helping students lead the way here.

Location, Location, Location!

From our single, inaugural location in Sintra, we are beginning to pave a Boundless path across the globe - and this path will continue to grow.

Every new destination has its unique appeal and beauty - and challenges! We’ve navigated language barriers, oodles of red tape, significant weather events, and unexpected (and occasionally hilarious) mishaps along the way.

Our local Crews on location are our ‘swans’ - ever calm on the surface, but often paddling furiously to ensure all our families have the best possible experience. To say they go above and beyond is somewhat of an understatement.

Boundless From the Beginning: Catarina, General Manager (and Queen of Calm), Sintra:

“It’s common to go through the whole range of human emotions during a cohort - sometimes during a single day! There have been stressful moments (arranging last-minute accommodation for our families at the end of our weekend trip to the Azores after our flight was cancelled just before boarding), shocking moments (finding a waterfall of water cascading down the steps of the Hub during a storm), and hilarious moments (using a banana catapult to attach bunting to out of reach places during our Santos Populares celebrations - don’t ask! 🤣).

Every day is different, and you don’t always know what to expect, but that’s all part of the adventure.”

Growing Community Without Growing Apart

Boundless Life has grown significantly over just two years. From one location to four. From four Founders to over 100 remote-working and on-location Crew members distributed globally. From our original Founding Families taking a leap of faith to over 500 families within our community playing an integral part in our continuous evolution.

One of the key challenges to date - and in the future - will be to ensure that growth is not at the expense of connection. Community is key for us and has been consistently quoted as being one of the main benefits and pleasures of participating in our cohorts.

Our Boundless Connections events (that take place at the beginning and end of each cohort) offer a unique opportunity for the parents to convey, and reflect upon, their personal goals for their time with us. These are often emotionally charged, and always a great reminder of the importance of human connection and community - something that is sadly sometimes lacking in our ‘normal lives’.

Boundless From the Beginning: CEO and Co-Founder:

“Witnessing the bonds that have formed between our families - parents and children alike - during our cohorts has been one of the most soul-satisfying outcomes of this entire endeavour. These friendships so often extend well beyond the geographical boundaries and time limits of our Experiences. Families will intentionally seek each other out after a cohort concludes - whether this is visiting each other’s homes or quickly coordinating to spend future cohorts together.

And I can’t talk about bonds without mentioning the Boundless Life Crew. Managing and being part of a globally distributed team is not always easy, but the Crew never fails to amaze me with their tenacity and creative problem-solving. Together with our community, we are building something that will change people’s lives. This lifestyle has already changed my and my family’s lives immeasurably - and we are only just getting started.”

Come and be part of our journey! We would love to welcome you along. Book a Call with us to take the first steps on our ever-growing path.
