Picture a summer camp where your children don’t only have fun whilst making new, international friends, but can also learn new skills and discover lifelong passions. Now spread this over 6 weeks this summer. Throw in an AMAZING coworking space for parents. Oh, and did I mention this is all available in Bali?! In this article, let’s take a look at what’s available for the kids.
1. Surf’s Up!
Sanur is a great place for kids to learn to surf for several reasons:
🏄🏽♀️ Gentle waves: The waves in Sanur are usually small and gentle, making it a perfect place for kids to learn to surf without feeling intimidated or overwhelmed by big waves.
🏄🏽♀️ Shallow water: The water in Sanur is quite shallow, which means that kids can stand up and touch the bottom while they're learning to surf. This provides a greater sense of security and makes it easier for them to learn the proper techniques of surfing.
🏄🏽♀️ Experienced instructors: Boundless Life is partnering with experienced surf instructors who are skilled at working with children. They are patient, and knowledgeable, and can teach kids the basics of surfing in a fun and safe environment.
🏄🏽♀️ Clean and family-friendly: The beach is clean and safe, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby where families can relax and enjoy watching their children learn.
2. Balinese Art
Indonesia’s art is varied and interesting and Sanur is well known for being a hub for artisans of all disciplines - with many galleries along its rambling promenade. At our Education Centre and beyond, your children will have the opportunity to both view local art and create their own masterpieces.
Children will create traditional Balinese offerings with flowers and leaves, learn from local artists about the techniques used to create unique and colourful Balinese paintings and make batik fabric using traditional methods.
They can also explore their creative side with a pottery class, and an enriching visit to a Balinese art museum, where they can admire the works of talented local artists and learn about the rich history of Balinese art.
3. Get Sporty
Whilst you might not immediately associate Indonesia with sport there are plenty of interesting, traditional games that your kids will get to learn about - such as Mepantigan, a Balinese martial art that combines wrestling with mud fighting. They can also watch and participate in a game of Sepak Takraw, a Southeast Asian sport that is popular in Bali
Our 6-week programme takes place during the annual Kite Festival! Children will learn all about this tradition whilst trying their hand at kite flying in the beautiful setting of Sanur’s beaches.
4. Scintillating Science!
No period tables and bunsen burners here! Instead, children will discover a range of exciting science activities that will ignite their curiosity about the world around them.
They will dive into the wonders of marine biology and learn about the diverse species that inhabit Bali's coral reefs. Inspired by the wonders of the sea, they will visit a local butterfly park and observe the life cycle of butterflies, followed by a visit to a sea turtle conservation centre and learn about the local conservation efforts being made to protect these incredible animals.
Let’s not forget physics! Kids will also get to grips with the different forces at work by understanding how kite flying works.
5. Yoga
Bali is the BEST place for children (and adults!) to find moments of peace, tranquillity and mindfulness whilst practising yoga. The Education Centre will lead a daily yoga and meditation session during Connection Time at the start of each day.
Why is yoga great for children?
🧘 Reduces stress and anxiety
Practising yoga can help reduce stress and anxiety levels in children. By teaching them mindfulness techniques and breathing exercises, they can learn to regulate their emotions and focus on the present moment. When children are less stressed, they can concentrate better and absorb more.
🧘 Improves concentration and memory
Yoga involves a combination of physical postures, breathing exercises, and meditation. These practices can improve blood flow to the brain, which in turn can enhance concentration and memory retention. Children who practise yoga regularly may be better able to focus on tasks and retain information learned in class.
🧘 Promotes physical fitness
Yoga is a low-impact form of exercise that can help improve children's physical fitness. By practising yoga, children can develop strength, flexibility, and balance, which can enhance their overall health and well-being.
🧘 Enhances social and emotional learning
Yoga teaches children to be mindful of their thoughts, feelings, and actions. By practising yoga in a group setting, children can also learn to cooperate with others, communicate effectively, and develop empathy and compassion.
