A lot of the questions that we receive are around ‘HOW’ to make the Boundless Life (or any kind of family slow-travel) a reality. Fortunately, there are a few different answers to this question. 

Read on to learn about a few of the options, but also meet some of the families who have successfully transitioned to a life more Boundless.

Family Gap Year 

The Family Gap Year (or sabbatical) is becoming more and more popular and we’ve been lucky enough to host some of the families who’ve taken this path - and witness the benefits of this in action:

💫 Strengthening family bonds: Spending extended time together, away from the distractions of everyday life, helps families to connect and bond on a deeper level.

💫 Expanding worldviews: Travelling to new places and cultures can help children and adults alike to develop a better understanding of the world and their place in it.

💫 Learning new skills: A gap year can be a great opportunity to learn new skills, such as a foreign language, cooking, or photography. Boundless Life offers a whole range of learning opportunities for parents and children alike. 

💫 Gaining life experience: A gap year can be a transformative experience, helping families to develop independence, resilience, and self-confidence.

💫 Creating lasting memories: A gap year is a chance to create unforgettable memories with your family that will last a lifetime.

Business as Usual 

If you are already working remotely (or have the option to work from anywhere) you’re halfway there! You can carry on getting your best work done from somewhere new whilst exploring the world. 

But what about the kids?! 

For working solo parents or parents who both work, slow travel can be much more challenging. Childcare or educational provision can be more ad-hoc, part-time or short-term than you may need. 

This is the beauty of Boundless Life for many Digital Nomad Families. They can continue to work and retain their regular income, whilst the children benefit from a forward-thinking education programme and innovative curriculum that is available 9 am - 3.30pm Monday to Friday. 

Need that extra hour for a meeting at the end of the day? Don’t worry - your kids will probably be off learning a new skill or developing an existing one via a range of Extracurricular Activities available.

Creating passive income streams 

Many of the families we have welcomed have established passive or semi-passive income streams to support their travels. Some rent out their family home as a short-term holiday let or longer-term residential letting. Others leverage their investments or trade in the stock market. Talented marketers and content creators can generate income from advertising on their pages.  

Here are some other ideas for creating a passive income:

💰 Invest in dividend-paying stocks

Dividend stocks are stocks that pay out a portion of their profits to shareholders on a regular basis. This can be a great way to generate passive income while you travel.

💰 Invest in real estate

Investing in real estate can be a great way to generate passive income, especially if you rent out your properties. However, it is important to do your research and understand the risks involved before investing in real estate.

💰 Start a blog or YouTube channel

If you have a passion for family travel or another topic, you can start a blog or YouTube channel and monetise it through advertising, affiliate marketing, or selling your own products and services.

💰 Write and sell an ebook

Are you a budding author? You can write and sell an ebook on Amazon. This can be a great way to generate passive income, as ebooks continue to sell even while you are travelling.

💰 Create and sell online courses

If you have expertise in a particular area, you can create and sell online courses on platforms such as Udemy and Skillshare.

💰 Sell your travel photos

If you are a talented photographer, you can sell your travel photos to stock photo websites or directly to businesses and individuals. This can be a great way to generate passive income, as your photos can be used over and over again.

💰 Start a dropshipping business 

A dropshipping business is a type of online business where you sell products without having to carry any inventory. When a customer places an order, you simply contact the supplier and they will ship the product directly to the customer. This can be a great way to start a passive income business, as you do not need to invest in any inventory or shipping costs.

It is important to note that all of these passive income streams require some upfront work and investment. However, once they are up and running, they can provide you with a steady stream of income while you travel.

Going All-In 

Some of our families have gone ‘all-in’ to facilitate a life of slow travel exploration - my own included! You can read my story here. What does going all-in look like? 

This usually involves removing the safety net of having a home base. Several Boundless Life families sold their homes and most of their belongings to have a life that prioritises experiences over material possessions. 

This doesn’t necessarily mean any equity from the sale of a home has to be used to fund slow travel as a family - especially if you can use any of the options above to generate a regular income.
