3 Reasons Why Syros is THE Place to be this Spring

Greek mythology teaches us the legend of Demeter and Persephone - and how Demeter receives her daughter back from the realm of Hades - as a representation of the joy and celebration of Spring.

Greece is reborn in the Spring. The orange tones of the sunbaked earth are replaced with green as nature weaves her magic across the lands.

Boundless Life’s island base in Syros is beautiful throughout the year of course, but here is our take on why our Spring cohort (April-June)  is a great opportunity to explore life as an islander!

1. Fantastic Climate

Temperatures in early Spring are around 17 degrees celsius on the very coolest days, but can climb as high as 30 degrees in May - the unofficial start of summer. You will enjoy days warm enough for swimming in the sea (our Boundless families enjoyed this pursuit as late as November last year!).

The sometimes gusty winds that characterise the Cycladic islands also often pause or decrease during the spring - meaning more predictable currents for you and your family to try out sailing for the first time.

The slightly cooler temperatures are also great for undertaking the numerous hikes available. Boundless’ very own local legend - Experience Champion Giannis - is your expert guide to the paths and trails that traverse the island.

Bonus tip: Neighbouring Tinos is apparently THE place to visit in Spring! Just a short ferry-hop away and you will be rewarded by the lush sights and floral scents of this beautiful small island.

2. Experience Easter

Come and witness the celebrations during Greek Orthodox Holy Week and Easter Sunday - the biggest event of the year in the Greek calendar! Expect lots of open-air activities, colour and joy and, of course, fantastic food.

Easter is the personification of Spring - the triumph of new beginnings and a chance for the whole community to come together in celebration.

Greek Easter - with all its customs and traditions - is something that has to be truly experienced to be understood. With the help of our local team, Boundless Life families will have the opportunity to really develop a sense of connection to their island home during this special time.

3. Less crowds, even more Syros!

You really do get the best of all worlds in Spring! Increasingly long and warm days as Spring transitions into early Summer, and huge events on the cultural calendar, but without the hustle and bustle of the main tourist seasons of July and August.

From the beaches, to the towns and villages and the hilltop vistas, you have the chance to experience it all during your 3-month stay. Syros is being re-born. Come along for the ride!

It is fair to say that some of our families have had some initial reservations about spending three months on an island, but Syros just left them wanting more! Don’t just take our word for it though….

Lindsey, Joe and their daughter are about to enter the second month of a 3-month Experience on Syros:

“To those concerned about living on an island for 3 months, let me wash your concerns away! We’ve been in Ermoupolis on Syros Island with our 4-year-old daughter for 1 month and we are already dreading leaving!

3 months may seem like a long time to live on an island, but it flies by with the combination of maintaining our own routines and the addition of so many new experiences organised by the local team. These include hikes that familiarise us with the geography and history; Greek dancing, fishing, and unique holiday events like Carnival that teach us about local traditions; language lessons that allow us to communicate more respectfully with locals; and self-arranged play dates, dinners, beach visits, and meetups a the playground or in the square that create community among both Boundless and local families.”
